How can you unite, rather than divide, during the Covid-19 pandemic

Posted on: March 17, 2020

I have to admit that I’ve never run a business during a pandemic.

Nevertheless, here we are my dear friend. ❤️

The last few days when I wake up, I’ve been asking myself,

“What can I do?”

“Who do I need to be right now… for myself, for my family, for my friends, for my community, and for those who I don’t know, but who are getting hit the hardest with Covid-19?”

In fact, I’ll be on
FB live in The Feminine Affluent Entrepreneur
and on IG Live @melissa_pharr
4pmEST today to talk about
How We Can Unite, Rather than Divide, During the Covid-19 Pandemic.

I know that you’re getting a lot of these emails, but just as I’d advise you to do, I’m going to share my message about what’s on my mind, in case something I say is just what you need to hear today.

I’m sharing two questions that I’ve been pondering and the solutions I’ve come up with, plus permission that I hope you’ll give yourself.

1) How can we unite rather than divide?

Fear, Panic, and Hate are all dividers.

Peace, Calm, and Love are all uniters.

First, if you choose fear, panic or hate in the next few months ahead, or ever, I’ll still love you. I’ll give you grace for being human, and perhaps just a bit afraid of today’s world. What I WON’T do, is add to any fear, panic, or hate.

Being divided doesn’t seem to have done much for us that past few years has it? Rants, finger pointing, shaming others about their response or actions, whether “justified” or not, has never added LOVE to the equation.

I’m not talking about spiritual bypassing, dropping our responsibilities, or pretending that life isn’t happening. I’m talking about pointing out gaps or shortfalls, but with a commitment to offering solutions, and most of all, CHECKING our motivations.

Am I speaking up just to be “right,” to punish, and/or to shame someone else?

Or am I providing a solution that I believe will add to the LOVE vibration, and inspire others to lend a hand and come together?

2) What can I do to help?

>>>> Keep yourself and others healthy. You’ve heard many of the guidelines of the CDC and WHO, things like:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly for 20 seconds with warm soap and water.
  • Social distancing and avoiding public spaces and gatherings.
  • Don’t touch ya face, yo.
  • Wipe down surfaces with a cleaner daily.
  • Clock as many hours as you can sleeping.
  • Move your body.

and more. Stay updated with recommendations daily. 🧼

>>> Look for ways to help those most in need.

Here’s a great article to check out:

and I’ll sum it up here in terms of the 6 ways you can donate, volunteer, or help others:

Get medical supplies shipped to where they’re needed most.

1) You can donate to Direct Relief’s coronavirus response here:

2) Volunteer with Meals on Wheels.
To volunteer in your area, find your local Meals on Wheels provider here:

3) Donate money to a reputable nonprofit.

Rob and I did a Donation Date Night this weekend and sent money to the Covenant House in NYC as well as Doctors without Borders, but check out these charity rating sites Charity Navigator and CharityWatch as they vet charities working around the world to address the outbreak.

4) Support your local food bank.

There’s a lot of panic buying out there that is leaving many without food during this time. Donate money, or give your local food back a call to see what support they need most.

5) Donate blood.

If you’re comfortable with this one right now, you can do some quick google searches to find a blood donation center or drive near you.

6) Help people experiencing homelessness.

The homeless are among the most vulnerable. Call your local homeless shelter to ask what they are most in need of at this time.

Plus, my own personal request of you:

Don’t stop sharing your gifts with the world.

They’re needed more than ever right now.

Being shamed for running your business right now, or shaming others isn’t helping anyone.

And NO, this isn’t a green light for profiteering.

But, just as there are humans concerned about their ability to make money while not being able to go into work, entrepreneurs also have to make money to support themselves and their families.

Yes, be conscious, aware, and sensitive.

Yes, alter your messaging in a way that acknowledges what’s going on in the world.

Think about what offers might be the most helpful and of service at this time.

Remember that there are always opportunities to grow, even during trying times.

It’s often when we feel the most limited that we become the most creative and discover what we’re made of.

You have a choice to dim your light right now and hide away OR show up and own that the world needs your gifts more than ever.

And just bc I’ve been thinking about these kinds of ideas:

  • Offer pro bono sessions to give back
  • Set up fun virtual Skype dates with those you’ve always wanted to create a relationships with
  • Offer a half day/full day virtual event that specializes in the needs of your target market
  • Create group sessions at a super affordable investment and let those who desire deeper support to flow into other higher level offers or programs

We all have a chance to be leaders right now in our own community, who lead from love.

Are you up for the challenge?

Remember, I’ll be sharing more about this live today @ 4PM EST in two places:

Hope to see you there and offer you my love and support,

Mel 💖
